Home
by Brian Skoog
i’m headed off to start my life
i drove all day and half the night
i’ve made it, why do i feel so damn alone
a brand new city, a brand new start
a brand new aching in my heart
i wanna turn around and go back home.
but as the tears pool in my eyes
a voice shouts out from deep inside
it says man, just keep holding on
because
home is not the bed you sleep in
its not the company you’re keeping
its the love in your heart that keeps you safe and dry
my good friend billy got it right
when he said “everything’ll be all right”
you’re my home and that’ll never change
I cried myself to sleep last night
for the first time in my life
not ‘cause life’s bad but because i am so blessed
i have a perfect mom and dad
the best girl a boyfriend ever had
and a little dog to keep me warm at night
WHY DOES TIME PASS SO EASILY?
WITHOUT WARNING IT COMES AND GOES
SECONDS TICK BY UNCEASINGLY
NOT CARING ABOUT ANYONE
NOT CARING ABOUT ANYTHING
NOT CARING THAT THEY ARE PULLING ME AWAY
but
home is not the bed you sleep in
its not the company you’re keeping
its the love in your heart that keeps you safe and dry
my good friend billy got it right
when he said “everything’ll be all right”
you’re my home and that’ll never change
home can be the pennsylvania turnpike
indiana’s early morning dew
high up in this brand new town
700 miles away
home’s just another word for you
